Misquoting Jesus by Bart D. Ehrman
Joseph Olivares
Professor Bart D. Ehrman, Chairman of the Religious Studies Department at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, is without a doubt one of the most popular, well-known Bible scholars of our day, and Misquoting Jesus is his most famous book. A New York Times Best Seller, Misquoting Jesus introduces to us the study of what scholars call textual criticism, and why it led Professor Ehrman to abandon his Christian faith....

The Language of God by Francis S. Collins
Joseph Olivares
The Language of God was written by Francis S. Collins, a very respected scientist who was the leader of the Human Genome Project. In this book, Collins presents his view on origins, which is theistic evolution, or, as he called it, BioLogos. This view says that God used the natural processes of evolution to bring about all living organisms, including humans. Collins does claim to be a Christian (I'm not saying he is or isn't), and attempts to reconcile evolutionary biology with his Christian convictions....

Vinnie King
RC, as always, gives a concise and easy to understand explanation of Reformed Theology or "Calvinism." In just over 200 pages, he discusses and defends the biblical doctrine of predestination and closes the book by answering common objections...

The New Testament Documents: Are They Reliable? by FF Bruce
Joseph Olivares
The New Testament Documents: Are They Reliable? by FF Bruce is a classic work on the historical reliability of the New Testament. This great little book is quite often referred to by other works in the field, almost always, as far as I can tell, in a positive fashion...

Faith Alone by Sproul
Vinnie King
Although it is a good book the title and cover is misleading. When looking at the cover most people assume that the book will be a biblical defense for the doctrine of salvation through faith alone. This is not the case; it is more of a historical walk-through of the controversy of the salvation doctrine. He lays out the Catholic and Protestant views of salvation. Most of the book is spent quoting John Calvin's heated debate with the Roman Catholic Church. For the most part, it is an easy read but some sections are exceptionally thick with information. If you are looking for a book that will assist you in defending the biblical doctrine of faith alone, this is not for you. If you are interested in the historical controversy involving this issue, I would purchase this book on Amazon right away.

Reinventing Jesus by Wallace, Sawyer and Komoszewski
Vinnie King
I recommend this book to anyone. It is a great and thorough review of the modern foolish attacks on Jesus. The book can be tedious at times and can also be a slow read. Some sections are very confusing and thick with information. It is however designed for laymen. Reinventing Jesus answers some of the objections such as: "We can not know what the original Bible really said", "Christianity borrowed form other pagan religions", "Jesus' divinity was not invented until the fourth century." It will give you a solid foundation to effectively defend Jesus and the Bible.
